Andy Tavares is one of Melbourne’s most renowned photographers, specializing in Fashion, Advertising & Lifestyle, and has been sought after in the industry for a number of years, initially Internationally, and then in Australia, when he moved to Sydney in the late 1970’s.
Originally from Portugal, and then later the United Kingdom, Andy started his photographic career working with clients in London, & Germany, where he shot for the many catalogue clients, and magazines such as Cosmopolitan Germany.
Whilst living in Sydney in the early 80’s, Andy shot many editorials for the major fashion magazines of the time, such as Vogue ,Cleo, Cosmopolitan, Mode, Dolly, Girlfriend & Pol Magazine.
In the mid 80’s, Andy moved to Melbourne, and quickly started working with magazines such as New Idea, Women’s Weekly, Woman’s Day, New Weekly, That’s Life, Silks, Melbourne Bride, Large and shot the fashion supplement lift outs for the Sunday papers, The Sunday Herald Sun, The Sunday Age & The Sunday Telegraph.
Andy has worked with most of the major advertising agencies locally & internationally, including Saatchi & Saatchi and Leo Burnett in London, George Patterson, Singletons, Clemenger & Leo Burnett & Y&R Mattingly in Sydney and Melbourne.
Andy has shot catalogue for the major department store catalogues including Myer/Grace Brothers, Myer Direct, Venture Stores, Target and Kmart.
Campaign clients include Country Road, Sportsgirl, John Cavill, Anthea Crawford, Jonathan Skeats Eyewear, The Village Roadshow Group, Healthscope, Jag Jeans, Miss Louise, Luisa Fashions, Diana Ferrari Shoes.
Andy has worked as well as for the Free to Air television stations, Channel 7, Channel 9, Channel 10 and the ABC & SBS, on publicity for shows such as Blue Heelers, The Secret Life of Us, Today Tonight, Neighbours, A Country Practice, Ten News, and was also commissioned to shoot the PR shots of Naomi Robson, Lisa McCune, Denise Drysdale, Marina Pryor, Frankie J. Holden, Glenn Wheatley and Bev Brock, the wife of the late Peter Brock, and the cast of Blue Heelers.
Andy’s long list of clients also includes Racing Victoria, & Country Racing Victoria, The Elizabethan Trust & The Logies. Australian international celebrity portraits include Mel Gibson, Jason Donovan, Nicole Kidman & Naomi Watts, and International music Icons Kylie Minogue, Neil Diamond and ACDC.
Andy was also commissioned to shoot former Prime Ministers Billy McMahon, Gough Whitlam. Malcolm Frazer, Bob Hawke and Paul Keating.
